With the ever increasing demands of environmental legislation, higher customer expectations and the enhanced risk of prosecutions, professionals involved within the environmental sector, from the regulator and corporate sector to the independent consultant, have found an increasing need to continually update their skills base. There has never been a greater requirement to gain specialist technical knowledge, keeping abreast within a challenging and changing business environment.
ESI’s programme of groundwater and environmental training courses are presented by leading experts within the field of soil and groundwater science, dealing with subjects such as groundwater flow, contaminant transport modelling, contaminated land, data management and GIS. Being active within the industry, the course presenters are experienced, high profile professionals involved in areas of consulting, regulation and leading-edge research. ESI’s ‘hands-on’ courses consist of lectures and practical sessions using examples derived from ‘real-life’ scenarios. Course delegates are actively encouraged to share problems and experiences and there is an open forum of animated and lively discussion. Our courses are designed to equip delegates with the technical knowledge to enhance problem solving skills, improve decision making and establish best practice methodologies.
ESI’s training programme can also be taken to the workplace. Many companies have commissioned ESI to run ‘in-house’ bespoke or web based courses. Under these circumstances, courses can be tailored specifically to the needs and requirements of the company, delivering the expertise where it is required the most. Our course programme is constantly evolving. The subject matter and course content is continually being updated to reflect changes in legislation and within the industry. Experts from industry and academia are also invited to present on some courses, for example Dr Mike Rivett (Birmingham University), Professor Phil Morgan (Sirius) and Professor John Lloyd (Retired MSc Hydrogeology Lecturer, Birmingham University).
ESI is an approved technical training provider to the Environment Agency. Courses delivered include Borehole and Aquifer Test Interpretation and the Practical Groundwater Flow and Contaminant Transport Modelling course, based around the industry standard ‘Groundwater Vistas’ software package for groundwater modellers. A high percentage of delegates on ESI training courses are from the Environment Agency. Most ESI courses are also accredited for CPD by relevant professional organisations (e.g. the Geological Society).
