Geographical Information Systems for Groundwater and Environmental Data
|
|
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have become widely used within the environmental sector. The power of GIS is to visualise and spatially interpret data present in spreadsheets, databases or environmental data systems. These data can also be integrated with electronic maps and images to enhance visualisation of the environment. Spatial analysis enables the calculation of distances between locations such as a contamination source and the nearest drinking water supply. Queries can also provide information relating point or line sources to areas, for example, determining from which aquifer boreholes are abstracting; relating rates of recharge to land-use; and which drift types rivers flow through. Possible GIS solutions for environmental data include: | Three-dimensional groundwater visualization solutions for analysis and communication of environmental groundwater data (Enviroinsite or Aranz Hydro).
| | Simple data visualisation applications: if only limited GIS functionality is required, an application based on MapObjects or MapObjects LT can provide a cost effective option.
| | Web-based GIS solutions: ESI can produce GIS reporting systems over the intranet/internet utilising ArcIMS or Open Source Solutions.
| | Environmental ArcGIS Extensions: data mining and visualisation tools to provide additional functionality to the standard ESRI ArcGIS packages (EQuIS ArcGIS Plugin).

ESI works at the forefront of environmental GIS. The majority of our software systems are produced in conjunction with ESRI software - the worlds leading supplier of GIS packages. ESI produces environmental GIS solutions using state-of-the-art GIS engines produced by ESRI. Our solutions include environmental data mining tools within standard ArcGIS to integrated GIS solutions designed for task-specific applications.
